Still trending? Animal and jungle trend in 2018

Some home décor trends only last for one season but there are a few which slip through the net and keep returning, season to season. Take Scandi-style for example. A trend, quite a few years back, took the interior world by storm and is still going strong. Spotted at Maison & Objet 2018 in Paris, we will see it reinvented for 2019 as ‘The New Nordic’. Right now, and for this blog, I’m focusing on the home décor trends A/W 2018 Animal and Jungle trend in 2018. First spotted in last years’ S/S 17 interior trends with zesty summer palettes (Pinterest went literally Wild!). Like creatures from their natural jungle habitat, these chameleon-like trends keep shedding their skin and evolving into new colourways and textures. Let’s explore some of my highlights for this A/W 2018.

I love the bright pops of colour set against the dramatic black background. I can almost hear those birds sing!

This stunning bird chair (below, left) is from Christian Lacroix’s’ current collection. It’s beautiful fabric and low height make it the perfect occasional chair. In particular, I love the bright pops of colour set against the dramatic black background. I can almost hear those birds sing!

Style Tip 1 – How to style your interior with Jungle Furniture

Enhance your jungle-inspired patterns with walls painted in bold bright colours (seen above, right image). Keep the cushions plain too by choosing a colour within the print (sofa or chair, for example). This way, you allow the busy design to shine.

Leopard is a classic print which never tires. In the clothing industry, we see it revelled by fashion editors almost every winter. A current buzz word in the world of interiors too -leopard is the cat with nine lives. This leopard fabric (above, left) from Pierre Frey is timeless.

Style Tip 2 – Leopard

For those drawn towards a wilder interior style, use leopard printed fabric upholstering chairs or footstools.

A personal favourite of mine are these printed ‘Urban Jungle’ stonewash linen cushions (above, right). I love how they work alongside the bamboo chair.

Style Tip 3 – Jungle Trend Update

For homes in warmer climates, (and for an instant jungle trend update) add palm printed cushions to your existing outside furniture. Works best with bamboo or rattan.

Once again, (like the bird chair) we see this striking jungle leaf wallpaper design from Pierre Frey, (left above) set in a dark background. It’s a clever way of lifting out the colour and pattern – giving it a wonderful 3D effect. Again, for Pierre Frey, the snake (on right) is the symbol of the new A/W capsule collection with Victoria-Maria Geyer. Transforming sofas and armchairs into jungle floors, the exquisite stitch detail can be seen here in this image.

Lastly, our final destination for the animal trend takes us on a luxurious safari expedition. These faux zebra footstools (top image) from Ralph Lauren home provide the perfect splash of animal-lux in this otherwise classical setting. Africa is also at the heart of these new wallpaper designs (bottom two images) from Elitis. Updated in warm golden tones, the panther, lion and zebra prints are a sequel to their natives’ collection. Shimmering metallic glints can be seen in their plain collections. I love these colours, so rich and jungle-regal.

I hope you have been inspired by these exciting new interior trends. Get in touch if you see anything you like, we are always happy to help,

Till next time,

Geraldine & Pia xx
